Fugitive Refrigerant Emissions
Problem statement
Refrigeration systems used for both commercial and industrial use have the issue of refrigerant leaking every time the system cycles- often under the radar as these refrigerant emissions are categorized as ‘fugitive emissions’. With the dedicated statement the University of Wisconsin-Madison has in place regarding the reduction of Greenhouse Gas emissions, reducing these fugitive emissions would greatly aid in the efforts to have campus achieve climate sustainability. Not only will we be striving towards a greater future, we can reduce the amount of money spent on refrigerant every year, effectively lowering costs for the university. Implementing our efforts to recognizing and addressing the possible fugitive refrigerant emissions at the Babcock Dairy Store would greatly benefit University interests and the greater scope of refrigeration engineering.
