Heated Sweating Torso
Problem statement
Picture working outside while the blazing summer sun beats down on you. Sweat beating down your back and face, shade being an oasis that is accessible infrequently, and heat stroke being a danger that can strike at any moment. Construction workers, landscapers, and all those who make a living working outdoors frequently face the dangers of summer heat and must rely on personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep cool. A heated sweating torso is needed to measure temperature and heat flux through the PPE material and ensure that it will work as intended. While other heated sweating torsos exist and offer slightly more precise measurements, such as the Thermal Manikin produced by Thermetrics, these devices can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our team intends to give our client a high quality, less expensive alternative that is tailored to their needs. This device will ensure that the protective personal equipment produced by our clients will keep workers safe and cool during the hot summer months.
