Wisc Wind

Problem statement

Wisc Wind is a design team that has competed in the yearly Collegiate Wind Competition since 2016. One portion of the competition involves designing and building a small-scale wind turbine. While the Wisc Wind team works on the competition as usual, our goal is to create the mechanical systems for a second turbine, exploring new designs, maximizing power output and emphasizing the testability of future turbines. Along with the physical turbine, we will simultanously be developing a virtual model of the turbine, that Wisc Wind can use in future years to quickly iterate and test in the early design stages.
