Problem statement

Imagine pressing down your right foot, and rocketing up to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds – without leaving a trace of pollution behind. As you’re flying through space, in one of the most innovative and futuristic vehicles available right now, you look around and see nothing but disappointed faces and threats of vandalism.

This has become everyday life for thousands of Tesla drivers around the world. What was once a symbol of electrical prowess and automotive ingenuity has been rebranded as a scarlet letter (or ‘Ultra Red’) on the road. Controversy surrounding the brand and its figurehead has left consumers yearning for a way to separate the art from the artist when it comes to clean mobility.

Our client, Geoffrey Hoffman, seeks to give new life to components from Model 3 Teslas, whether damaged, or simply unwanted. The goal is simple: create a standardized, brand-new chassis with Model 3 components that can be modularly coupled with body styling and interior components of the customer’s choosing. While some custom chassis companies already exist, this project is unique in its aims to specifically combat the issue of growing Tesla waste.

Currently, there are over 1000 damaged Model 3’s available for scrap on Copart.com. Hoffman’s vision is to give those cars a second chance before they’re sent to landfills, contributing to the environmentally catastrophic E-waste pileup.

In order to make a reliable product that sells, our team has been brought in with the goal of optimizing this chassis to have the best strength and weight properties without compromising cost passed on to consumers.

With Hoffman Manufacturing, we’ll be bringing customers’ dream EVs to life, keeping harmful waste out of landfills, and pushing small-business chassis development to breakneck speed.
