Problem statement

You buy spaghetti from a box where it is precut and prepared, and you never question how it was cut and so conveniently placed in a box. Dry ice is similarly a product we use in our everyday lives for everything from carbonating drinks to fighting fires, and is made from solid carbon dioxide, formed in long strands with a temperature of -109 F, and you have no idea how it gets into “the box.”
This is the problem we are looking to remedy; the strands of 6 mm dry ice do not break into workable pieces conveniently. These dry ice pieces need to be in viable sizes in order to be useful; however, there are no obvious existing solutions to cut the dry ice to 5-8 cm pieces. The current practice by our client is to hit the extruding ice with a shovel once it becomes too long. We plan to create a device that automates the cutting process, so our client can redelegate the manpower spent waiting and hitting the ice and minimize safety hazards.
