2022 logo54Automated Tank Testing Solution

Problem statement

Metalcraft of Mayville currently tests its plastic manufactured tanks by manually submerging one or more pressurized (2psi-6psi) tanks in a pool of chlorinated water. These tests require employees to stand over the pool of water and search for bubbles emerging from the tank(s). These tests can last upwards of two minutes, which presents ergonomic, quality, financial, and efficiency issues. It is not practical or accurate to make someone stare at a pool of water for two minutes and attempt to spot a leak with just the human eye. We intend to deliver a size effective, cost effective, modular automated testing apparatus that an operator will manually load and then walk away from while the test runs independently. This would allow operators to complete other work while the test is running and eliminate manually observing the pool of water. A sufficient solution will automatically identify and quantify tank leaks, save the data to a database, and alert operators when a tank fails to ensure that it is removed from stock. Ease of operation will be prioritized when it comes to operator controls and use, and the entire system will be designed with ergonomics and operator safety in mind.
