Seaweed Fixed Bed

Problem statement

Seaweed harvesting is traditionally a large-scale and labor-intensive process that requires expensive equipment and sizable workforces, both of which are unobtainable for an upstart company. Our client is looking to tap into the harvesting market and make the processes of harvesting and reseeding more efficient while providing additional economic opportunities to the local area. The current method based primarily on a 2-person crew utilizing bags and basic collection tools, such as skimmers, is inefficient, short in range, and can put the laborers at risk of injury. Our goal is to improve the processes by modifying current harvesting and reseeding techniques modeling around the minimalist tank design provided by our client to incorporate simple mechanical solutions that are efficient, sustainable, and easy to replicate.
