BAC - Badger Alcohol Command 2024Efficient Beer Faucet Design for Reduced Turbulence and Faster Pint Filling

Problem statement

Imagine going to a busy bar to order a beer, but the bartender struggles to pour it without a significant amount of foam. The customer and the bartender are both frustrated by the slow pour rate and wasted beer, and this leaves a negative impression of our client’s beer on the consumers. This frustration also reflects negatively on Molson Coors, which is a brand known for its quality. The Turbotap, a special tap invented by Todd Keeling in 2016, reduces foaming by placing the tap deep into the glass when dispensing, but this raises the concern of bacterial growth inside the tap getting into the customer’s beer [1]. Another solution to reduce foam is to hold the glass at an angle and minimize the distance from the glass to the beer stream [2]. However, this pouring process is tedious and time-consuming for the bartender. Badger Alcohol Command intends to solve our client’s problem by designing a new tap that dispenses beer at an optimal angle to reduce foam without the risk of bacterial contamination. Overall, our solution will improve efficiency, increase pour rate, and ensure an excellent beer-serving experience. Sources [1] T.
