Automatic Chemical Dispenser for Hot Tubs
Problem statement
Imagine ending a long day at work and being excited to relax in your hot tub, only to discover that the chemicals are out of balance and it’s unsafe to get in. Before even considering hopping into the relaxing hot tub, you must first go through the lengthy and cumbersome process of checking the chemicals. To begin, you must dip an old-fashioned chemical test strip into the water and match the colors on the strip to a chemical chart to understand the current levels of each chemical. Then, you have to know how much of which chemicals you need to add to fix the problem. 30 minutes later, you must check again to ensure the levels are normal, and if they aren’t, more adjustments must be made. Some devices do exist in the market to help aid in this process, but they don’t fully satisfy the needs of the client. The ControlOMatic Autochlorinator is able to regulate the chlorine content within hot tubs when needed, but it is not designed to control other important characteristics such as pH, alkalinity, and hardness levels. The WaterGuru has the ability to measure the Chlorine and pH levels of hot tubs, but it still leaves the client with the need to add in their own chemicals. We intend to provide the client with a product that will not only be able to sense all the important chemicals and properties of his or her hot tub, but also autonomously dispense the correct quantities of the necessary chemicals to correct any imbalance. In the end, our solution will provide you with the ability to leave your hot tub unattended for weeks without having to manually adjust chemical levels, leaving the hot tub ready for you after any long day at work.
