Buck-O-Lantern

Problem statement

One of the most iconic staples of Halloween is the Jack-O-Lantern, yet of all of the Americans who plan on celebrating in 2022, only 44% plan on carving a pumpkin. That’s 56% of the Halloween market that’s available to be targeted for carving pumpkins. With the current carving processes, from 2012 to 2021, there was an estimated 20,579 pumpkin-related knife injuries reported. For many busy families, carving a pumpkin currently is too dangerous, too messy, and takes too much time. Pumpkin carving kits such as Pumpkin Masters Carving Kit have specialized carving tools that make carving easier, yet they don’t contain a safe way to get into the middle of the pumpkin and consumers still have the messy task of removing the guts of the pumpkin. The previous year’s group created a process that mitigates the mess and some of the safety concerns, yet the process needs to continue to be refined. Specifically, the lighting source can be more efficient. We intend to continue to refine the previous group’s Jack-O-Lantern kit and process until our client is comfortable investing money and bringing it to the untapped market.
