Custom Extendable Hoist
Problem statement
Lack of storage space is a common headache for homeowners−especially in the garage. Even for people with extra space like an attic, the problem of manually lifting heavy, cumbersome objects arises. This issue is especially troublesome for our client, who is planning to build a second story onto their current garage for additional space to store a motorcycle and camping trailer. The current market for lifts and hoists is filled with powered and non-powered hoists that can lift vertically. Some options also have the ability to slide in a horizontal direction, but are very expensive [1] and do not have a retractable beam. For our client, a product that can be stored away when it is not needed is desirable for both aesthetic and functional purposes. Our solution will incorporate a retractable beam and powered movement so that large items can be lifted up and delivered into the second story of the garage. Custom attachments will be considered for lifting large/unique objects. Furthermore, the client has several size and mounting limitations, which are also important for common residential applications.
