Orthopedic Surgery Prototype

logo12 2019System to improve future MRIs

Problem statement

Currently, large os acetabuli rim fractures are fixated with a stainless steel screw which is often cannulated drilled over a very small 1-mm guide pin. Given the small size of the guide pins combined with very hard bone, they are prone to breaking and cannot be retrieved from the pelvic bone. Moreover, the cannulation in the screws weaken the overall strength of the screw and the material obscures the labral and other intra-articular structures of hip postoperatively. Therefore, a system that includes a drill guide, delivery device, and biocompatible screw that does not cause artifact for future MRIs is needed to improve this surgery.
