Problem statement

The bicycle market, as many other markets, has largely increased its e-commerce sales. E-commerce total sales have increased from 171 billion in 2010 to about 517 billion in 2018. The problem with ordering bicycles online is that the bicycles do not come fully assembled and it is up to the consumer to assemble the bicycle. Assembling of the bicycles takes well over an hour, requires special tools, and lacks instructions which leads to a lack of consumer confidence. This is discouraging for online bike shoppers. Pacific Cycle (client) looks to stay competitive with online markets and this will happen with improvements in the assembling process. With this project, we intend to decrease assembly time while requiring minimal tool usage, thus leaving our customer feeling confident about their bike construction without needing further assistance. Also, we intend to minimize packaging material and ensure that shipping costs stays low for full customer satisfaction.
