Squeaky Clean Badgers 2024Cove Diverter Valve Redesign

Problem statement

Subzero’s current dishwasher valve and motor system operates at 1 RPM, resulting in cycle transitions that take up to 45 seconds, far slower than the near-instantaneous transitions offered by competitors like Bosch and Miele, who use faster, more efficient motors. This delay affects user satisfaction, as customers increasingly expect quick, seamless operation from premium appliances. Furthermore, the water flow system experiences pressure losses before reaching the valve, reducing overall performance and energy efficiency. Miele, known for its precise water management and long-term reliability, designs its motors and valves to optimize water flow and maintain precise water pressure. While alternative solutions such as using off-the-shelf high-speed motors exist, they may compromise Subzero’s design philosophy, which focuses on custom, quiet, high efficiency components. By redesigning the valve and motor system to improve cycle speed and water flow efficiency, Subzero can address these performance issues and maintain its reputation for delivering reliable, high-quality products that meet and exceed user expectations in a highly competitive market.
