Stump Cutter Performance Improvement
Problem statement
According to Doosan Bobcat customer support, operators of the stump grinder attachment, one of whom we have been in contact with, for the AT450 tractor often face significant challenges due to the current design, which relies on cumbersome steering wheel adjustments to maneuver the cutting blade. This approach not only hinders operational efficiency but also leads to frustration and fatigue, diminishing productivity and overall user satisfaction. Although some existing solutions attempt to address these issues, they often fall short in providing the necessary ease of use and precise control. Our client, Doosan Bobcat, recognizes the need for a redesign that introduces a more intuitive blade movement mechanism. This solution aims to enhance operational efficiency and safety while alleviating the physical strain on users. By improving the user experience, we can empower operators to work more effectively and with greater comfort. Through this redesign, we aim to deliver a robust solution that meets the evolving needs of operators and improves their overall experience. There are many possible solutions to this issue, which will require extensive market research, dynamic calculations, CAD modeling, and prototyping. Some of these solutions include the connection to the tractor’s hydraulic system, belt driven handles to maneuver the attachment, and possibly a coded controller to move the attachment with exact precision. All of these options will be considered, and ultimately one will be decided on for continuation.
