Precision Cocoa Powder Dispenser
Problem statement
Finding the time to give back to your community can be difficult while working a full time job and raising a family. Our client currently spends an overwhelming amount of time filling 1lb bags with hot chocolate powder to sell at high school fundraisers. Filling machines on the market now like the Lambda Doser and High Doser Powder Feeder cost $2,116, and the hopper is too small to hold 10 pounds of powder [1]. It also uses a powder pump to change the feed rate, which goes against our client’s desire to have no electronic plug in. For a smaller fundraising operation, the cost of this machine would significantly cut into proceeds. The current method of guessing one pound of powder and checking on a scale takes too much of our client’s time. We intend to design a filling machine that is low cost, easy to transport, and entirely mechanical. Our design will reduce the time spent filling each coffee bag by 50% while maintaining accuracy and costing less than $500 to manufacture.
